The 6th Bomb Group website is a primary history source for the Pacific War 1941-1945. The history, stories, lessons, emotions and analysis of the war its impact and causes are told first-hand by veterans who experienced it on the home front, the battle front and by American agents who officially interrogated Japanese leaders and records directly following the war. The content spans pre-Pearl Harbor through post-war Japan and the War Trials with an emphasis on the B-29 bombing of Japan.

The primary purpose of the site is to preserve the accurate history of the war and its most important lessons for future generations of students and leaders. The original records, articles, memoirs and diaries have been digitized, organized and formatted to facilitate navigation and understanding around the most important study topics. The organization is layered to allow visitors to view summaries and highlights with progressive options for greater detail.

Student Starter Guide

The Student Starter Guide provides guided navigation to four summary articles introducing the student to the most important history and take-home lessons of the war. These include the vulnerabilities that led the U.S. to war, the factors that led to Japan’s defeat, the importance of the home front, the decision to use the atom  bomb and the war lessons future generations and leaders need to follow to prevent such wars in the future.  The Starter Guide is found under the Teachers tab.

Teacher Lesson Plans

The Teacher Lesson Plans are based on multi-state history curriculum guidelines, including the History Content Standards for California Public Schools. The Plans comprise a list of study questions, assignable website articles and synopsis answers for each study question. The Lesson Plans are found under the Teachers tab.

“RELIVE” THE WAR EXPERIENCE

The Key Docs tab (under The Pacific War) contains two exceptional first-hand, first person narratives of the war, from training to post-war, taking the reader “into the cockpit” to experience the war and emotion of each B-29 bombing mission over Japan.
